Upgrade or Renew Backyard Bookie

We no longer support the Thoroughbred Edition.  If you purchased in 2021 or later, there is no need to upgrade, as you own the Premium Edition license.

If you originally purchased the Thoroughbred Edition and have not upgraded since 2020 or earlier, you will need to purchase the Premium Edition for only $29.95.  The Premium Edition does not require an upgrade to continue to use the software year after year.   Order now.

If you need to reinstall your Premium Edition software, you can follow the steps below.

Upgrade to the latest maintenance version of the Premium Edition

First, you need to de-install your current Backyard Bookie program.

  • Make sure you have your Registration ID.  To get your ID, open your existing Backyard Bookie program and click the Help / About Backyard Bookie menu item.  Your registration ID will be displayed to you.
  • Click the "Start" or Windows icon in the bottom left corner, then find "Control Panel", then "Add/Remove Programs" or "Uninstall a program"
  • Select "Backyard Bookie", and click Add/Remove button

Second, download the latest version of Backyard Bookie - Premium Edition.

Trouble with downloading and running the install package?
Please try saving the download file onto your C: drive somewhere vs. trying to run it from within your browser.  Save the file and then find the saved BackyardBookieZip.exe file in File Explorer and double-click on it to launch the install process.  Often this will solve any issues.

Vista and Windows 7-11 users!
There are a few of Backyard Bookie features that do not operate properly with the Vista and Windows 7 thru 11 operating systems that we know of -- and possibly more with your particular system setup.

The Help documentation will not be available through the Help buttons on the Backyard Bookie Windows, due to a limitation introduced in the Windows system.

Instead, you can click here to download the full Help documentation that comes with the product.  The download is in Adobe Acrobat format and approximately 770 KB.

It is necessary you perform the following steps to set the compatibility mode:

  • right-click the Start button or Windows icon in the bottom left corner

  • click File Explorer

  • find your C: drive and click

  • find Program Files -- or Program Files (x86) -- and click

  • click on the "Compatibility" tab

  • find the BackyardBookie folder and click

  • find BackyardBookie(.exe) and right-click

  • choose Properties

  • click the Compatibility tab

  • check the "Run in Compatibility Mode for" and choose Windows XP Service Pack 2 (or Service Pack 3)

  • in the Privilege Level section, check the "Run this program as an administrator" box

  • click OK

This should set the security on your computer such that the automated Backyard Bookie functions will work properly and may help keep calculations accurate.

Also, some people have reported problems with printing (black boxes in some areas, for example, or no print at all).  Try the above bulleted steps to see if that helps.  If not, then print will need to done to a file (either HTML, comma-delimited for import into a spreadsheet, or text file) and then printed separately.
